The elementary program at Faith Heritage is designed to build a strong foundation in the basic skills of Bible, reading, spelling, mathematics, science, social studies, penmanship and oral and written language. In addition, instruction is given in art, library, music theory and choral music and physical education. Bible: At the elementary level, Bible includes a weekly Bible memory verse, reading and studying Bible passages and doing character or topical studies at each grade level. The Christian disciplines are also taught and practiced and application of Biblical principles is emphasized. Reading: Phonics instruction forms the basis for reading instruction in the lower elementary grades. Basal readers as well as class sets of children’s classics are used to develop reading comprehension and other skills. Spelling: Weekly spelling lists which incorporate some Bible concepts and terms form the core of the spelling program. Correct age appropriate spelling is required on written work. Mathematics: A sequential, hands on, concept based mathematics program is taught in grades K – 6. Math manipulatives are incorporated at every level. Science: The National Science Standards are used as a guideline for the basic elements of the science program. Basic concepts are taught with an emphasis on God’s creation in the area of science. Social Studies: Social studies incorporates history and geography. History is explained as “His story” or God’s and man’s influence on the world over time. Biblical principles are integrated into each and every subject taught. Teachers receive training in this skill through Christian school teacher conventions, workshops and personal Bible study. The Stanford Achievement tests are administered each spring in grades 3 – 6.
